Sometimes it can be easy to get stuck in a rut with hair, especially with the Pandemic shutting all of the hairdressers. It is hard to know what to do with longer locks, grown out colour or disastrous home cuts. It’s so easy just to throw your hair up into a messy bun and jump out of the door but Spring is about new beginnings and what better way to start than with your hair. For those in need of serious hair inspo, here are the different hair trends you will be seeing a lot of over the next few weeks/months.
A timeless hair do that has been seen on many stars such as the Kardashians, Bella Hadid, J-Lo and even the queen herself Beyonce. It is important to eliminate any baby hairs for this style as it needs to be as sleek as possible, you can use any gel, hairspray or oil to get those baby hairs to stick down. As strange as it may sound, a toothbrush will become your best tool for this style, it helps to tame flyaways and gather your hair into a ponytail (just don’t get it mixed up with the one you brush your teeth with). You can also use a thin strand of hair to disguise your bobble, simply wrap the hair around the bobble and pin in place with a bobby pin, it gives it a polished finish.
If you want to elevate that sleek ponytail even more make sure you have a vast amount of bobbles on hand, especially if you have long hair. This look has become very popular with many influencers, since its appearance in 2015 on the Valentino fashion show and no wonder, it is so aesthetically pleasing. To create this look take small bobbles or clear hair ties and secure every 2 inches (roughly) of hair with your elastic of choice and repeat until you reach the end of your hair. Then go back and pull each section to create the bubbles, you can even back comb the hair beforehand to create a more messy look.
Silk Head Scarf
For anyone who is suffering from the effects of no hairdresser for 5 months and whose roots now appear to be growing longer by the second this accessory is one of the best investments you will make. It is an accessory almost as old as time but since the fall 2021 collections it seems to have made a major comeback, there are so many different ways to wear them from the classic bandana style to looping them into plaits. So if you need to cover up your roots or fancy a nice headband then you need a silk head scarf.
This is a classic hairstyle which has never gone out of fashion, in fact it always rises in popularity when the summer comes around. It can be a tricky skill to master but in every friendship group there will be one who has the talent, the chosen one, who can French braid with ease. If you’re lucky they might do it for you- if not there are countless tutorial videos on YouTube that take you through the process step by step- it just takes practise. When you are a master of French braiding you can even try Dutch braiding or add a silk scarf threaded through the plaits at the end. The ways you can style your hair with French braids are endless.
One of my favourite ways to style my hair is sleek curls or Hollywood curls as they look so neat and smooth. As they can also be called Hollywood curls it is no surprise that most celebrities have styled their hair this way at some point in their career. You can do this with straighteners as well as curlers, the trick is to curl towards your face and then roll them up, pin them to your head and let them cool so the curl holds for longer. From this you can then take a wide tooth comb and brush the curls out until you get the smooth wave like effect. For that extra sleek look run oil through the ends of your hair too add shine and ease any frizz.
Although this style can feel a bit childish as most of us will have worn this hair style at some point in our lives, it has risen in popularity and is a throwback to the 90’s. One way to style these is to leave out any face framing hair and smooth them down, you can also shape your baby hairs with a toothbrush and gel. When styling the pigtails themselves make sure to curl up and out the ends of your hair if you are straightening it, however if you have naturally curly hair the bigger the better.
Bun with Face Framing Tendrils
Since Love Island’s Molly Mae appeared on our screens it has been forever my mission to get that perfect bun she has, as it is super slicked back and neat. Now it seems she is taking it to the next level by leaving out face framing tendrils that give it a more relaxed look. You can style the front sections of hair by using a larger roller for volume and rolling on the underside of the hair top create a bouncy look. Using straighteners you can also flick out the ends or curl them to make loose waves.
