The Walking Dead may be coming onto its home stretch, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have plenty of surprises in store for its fans. The show will culminate with its upcoming season, and they’ve got some new faces they’re going to share with fans in the show’s final run. One of those new characters is named Lance Hornsby. Here’s some more information on that character as well as the man who will portray him.
Season 11 is the final season of ‘The Walking Dead’
The Walking Dead began as a graphic novel series. It’s grown into a blockbuster franchise with one insanely popular show and two spinoffs that also have a sizable fan base.
It’s now entering its 11th and final season. The show has seemingly been on forever, though for superfans of the long-running series, they probably don’t think it’s been on long enough. The show has seen characters come and go, but the last season will help wrap up the storylines of all remaining characters.
The show doesn’t just rest on its laurels by following existing characters, however. It also never shies away from introducing new ones as well. Season 11 will see the introduction of eight new characters, according to Insider. One of those characters is named Lance Hornsby. Here’s how they’ll impact the last season.
Who is Josh Hamilton’s Lance Hornsby?
Actor Josh Hamilton will join the cast as a character named Lance Hornsby. His official role is still yet to be fleshed out, as fans will have to watch the entire season to see his development and arc. But the comics may give us some information on the character’s backgrounds and motivations.
In the graphic novel, Lance belongs to the group known as the Commonwealth, where he acts as a bookkeeper. Before Eugene and his fellow travelers come into the Commonwealth, Lance is the one who welcomes them to their new location.
Hornsby could have a more significant role on the show than Lance did in the books. More than likely, the show will use Lance’s depiction in the comics as a springboard to further explore the character or add features to him so that he’s more prominent on the show. Only time will tell.
Who is Josh Hamilton?
Entertainment Weekly interviewed showrunner Angela Kang and she commented on the new character as well as the actor playing him:
“Lance Hornsby is also based on a character from the books. We’ve got our own take on him, and he’s this charismatic fixer for the Commonwealth. Josh Hamilton is wonderful and brings such interesting flavors to the character.
For people who know the movie Eighth Grade, he brought such warmth to that character, and he’s playing this character that has so much energy and optimism who’s trying to sell people on the Commonwealth.”
Hamilton’s character may still have an air of mystery around him, but there’s no mystery around Hamilton’s talent. He’s appeared in multiple shows and films. According to IMDB, has starred in numerous TV shows, including:
- Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why
- This Is Us
- Law and Order: Special Victims Unit
- Ray Donovan
- Mrs. Fletcher
- Madam Secretary
- American Horror Story
- The Good Wife
He’s also made appearances in multiple films, including a few that have been significant hits, such as:
- The critically acclaimed Bo Burnham dramedy Eighth Grade
- The Clint Eastwood historical biopic J. Edgar, chronicling the life and times of former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover
There’s no doubt that Hamilton has worked on some prestigious projects, and it seems as though he’ll help make this one stronger as well.
